Back in the Bottle : The Musical

ALEX: is the all-American athletic type. He is the narrator, tension-breaker, and comic relief. Alex is a musician and an outcast from a modest, Southern-Baptist home. Alex meets Rhail, they become best friends, and they start a rock band. Then, Alex meets Cat when she comes to see the band play, and they fall in love.

CAT : is a free-spirited rebel who likes tie-die dresses and jam music. Cat comes from a wealthy WASP family. At college, Cat meets Alex & Rhail who invite her to a gig. Cat really likes Alex, so she asks her rich father to get him a job at the Arboretum. Cat invites her other friends to see the band.

LIZ : is a sassy Cajun coquette from Louisiana. Liz wears colorful bracelets, and large hoop earrings that express her bold personality. She also practices a form of French-Creole Voodoo. Liz is friends with Cat and Alex, and she finds herself in a love triangle with Rhail and Genie.

RHAIL: was a poor Pakistani boy. He is a Muslim turned Christian by a music minister who became his father. Rhail had a rough life until he found an enchanting genie in a bottle, and he sets her free. The encounter changes Rhail’s life because the genie talks his father into adopting them both and bringing them to America. GENIE gives Rhail riches and talent, but in return she sets her eyes on revenge.

Jeannie: is a seductive female antagonist with red lips and fingernails. She is agnostic but she prays. Trapped in a bottle for over 106 years, Genie’s character explores the antagonist’s theme of vengeance. Genie’s character shows how chaos typically ensues in and around the relationships of people who seek revenge.

CHOIR MAN #3 : Detective Brown: has a shiny new badge. Fresh out of the academy he knows that the bureau has some internal biases that he must overcome, so he is curious and passionate about closing the case. Eager to prove his theory that Rhail committed the murder, Detective Brown investigates Rhail and his friends. Detective Brown is also attracted to Liz, and he pursues her for a date.
